The purpose of the meeting is to present the opportunities offered by the Intra-African market and to define strategies to facilitate the fluidity of cargo transport and the free movement of goods between UASC member states.

Since the 1^st of January 2021, African countries officially started trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which represents a market of 1.2 billion consumers and a combined GDP of about US$3 trillion for the 54 member states of the African Union.

It is in this context that the city of Douala, Cameroon's economic capital, will host a sub-regional workshop of experts from the Union of African Shippers' Councils (UASC) from 10 to 12 August 2022. The latter is a specialized body of the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) which brings together national shippers' councils and similar bodies of States of these two sub-regions.

The Douala meeting themed "the role of shippers' councils in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement", seeks to present the opportunities of the intra-African market and to define strategies to facilitate the fluidity of cargo transport and the free movement of goods between UASC member states.
