Information from the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development reveals that the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union will finance the renewal of the Belabo-Ngaoundere railway line (330 km) estimated at 80.7 billion FCFA.

This project will improve the quality of the multimodal transport offer, precisely by optimizing the operation of this 47-year-old railway line, essential for serving the national hinterland (north of the country) and some landlocked countries of the sub-region (Chad and the Central African Republic).

Feasibility studies for this project carried out by the Spanish group TYPSA, made up of independent engineering consulting firms, were validated on 6 March 2020 and concrete work towards the rehabilitation of the Belabo-Ngaoundere railway line was announced for 2021. This is the second major project carried out in the railway sector in Cameroon over the past 20 years, after the renewal of the 175 km railway track between Batschenga and Ka’a.
